Fantasy Football Championship Week: Undervalued Players to Start for Week 17 Wins

It’s championship week in fantasy football, and for those who made it to the final, congratulations! While some may have been eliminated from their leagues, it’s now time to focus on making crucial start/sit decisions. For those who started Jameson Williams last week and saw his 23.5 fantasy points, you’re likely in a good position to win. This week, let’s look at some undervalued players outside the top 24 rankings who can potentially lead fantasy managers to victory.

Alexander Mattison (RB, Las Vegas Raiders)

Despite the challenges, Alexander Mattison continues to perform, even with fellow running backs Sincere McCormick and Zamir White out for the season. Mattison has quietly earned a 57% snap share and accumulated 19 opportunities, including four catches for 7 targets, and scored a touchdown last week. This week, he faces a New Orleans Saints defense that’s struggled against the run. With Ameer Abdullah as his only competition, Mattison has the potential for a solid flex value or better, and may even be worth starting over players like Travis Etienne Jr., James Conner, or Alvin Kamara.

Adam Thielen (WR, Carolina Panthers)

The veteran Adam Thielen has proven he’s not done yet, continuing to be productive for fantasy owners. Thielen posted his third top-25 finish in the past four weeks and delivered in key moments against Arizona. This week, he faces a Tampa Bay defense that is stronger against the run but vulnerable in the passing game. With the Panthers likely in “catch-up” mode in a game with a 48.0-point over/under, Thielen could see 10+ targets and offer a solid fantasy floor, making him a viable starter over players like Khalil Shakir and Marvin Harrison Jr.

Jalen McMillan (WR, Tampa Bay Buccaneers)

Jalen McMillan has been on a hot streak, posting four touchdowns in his last three games and finishing in the top 24 for three straight weeks. With Tampa Bay’s playoff hopes on the line, McMillan will have plenty of opportunities to extend his touchdown streak. Mike Evans’ double coverage will open up space for McMillan to shine, and with an implied team total of 28.0 points, McMillan has strong potential for a big game this week.

Jayden Reed/Romeo Doubs (WR, Green Bay Packers)

The Packers’ wide receiver room remains unpredictable, but against a vulnerable Minnesota Vikings secondary, Reed and Doubs could be key contributors in Week 17. The Vikings are the best matchup for opposing wide receivers, and with the Packers likely needing to throw more, Reed and Doubs have the chance to perform in a potential shootout. If Christian Watson is sidelined, these two may see even more opportunities.

Darnell Mooney (WR, Atlanta Falcons)

Darnell Mooney has built a connection with rookie quarterback Michael Penix Jr., and his five catches for 82 yards last week showed his potential. While he hasn’t found the end zone since Week 9, Mooney offers a solid floor in a high over/under game against the Washington Commanders. He may not be the flashiest option, but for deeper leagues or as a floor play, Mooney is worth considering in Week 17.

As you make your decisions for the fantasy championship, these undervalued players could provide the extra edge you need for a victory. Best of luck in your matchups!
