Fantasy football playoff season has arrived, and if you’re reading this, you’ve likely made it to the critical part of your season where every decision counts. For those in the playoffs, Week 15 begins a fresh start. At this stage, the focus is entirely on winning now, not holding onto players who might provide long-term value but have no immediate impact.
Throughout the season, fantasy managers carried players for depth or upside, which was crucial during the chaotic moments like George Pickens’ last-minute scratch in Week 14. But now, your roster must prioritize only those who can deliver immediate results. This includes building a strategic bench to ensure you’re prepared for any scenario. A balanced bench could include backups you’re comfortable starting at wide receiver, running back, or tight end, as well as players with the potential to replace starters in case of injury.
For those lacking depth, waiver wires remain critical. Running backs like Patrick Taylor, Tank Bigsby, and Sincere McCormick offer potential value, while wide receivers such as Adam Thielen, Christian Watson, and Keon Coleman might bolster your lineup. Backup tight ends are harder to come by, but options like Hunter Henry and Jake Ferguson, if available, should be prioritized. Similarly, quarterbacks like Jameis Winston and Anthony Richardson, if still on waivers, can provide solid insurance.
“Playoff-proofing” extends beyond building your bench. Assess your opponent’s roster to identify weaknesses and block them from securing high-value players off waivers. This strategy, known as “playing keep-away,” can prevent your rivals from strengthening their lineups with potential threats.
Defenses and special teams (DSTs) are also crucial. A strong DST can make or break your week. Teams like the Ravens, Commanders, and Falcons offer favorable matchups for Week 15 and beyond. Some managers may consider carrying two DSTs to maximize their strategic options.
Lastly, don’t overlook kickers. Reliable options like Chris Boswell and Jake Moody, or those playing indoors or in favorable weather conditions, could provide a scoring edge.
Now is the time to be proactive and strategic. Every roster decision matters in your pursuit of a fantasy football championship.
